| VANC MetaGenerator is a WindowsT application that is used to create Vertical Ancillary (VANC) data packets for insertion by a CMI-100 Constant Metadata Inserter.
The CMI-100 adds VANC data to an SDI (SMPTE 259) or HD-SDI (SMPTE 292) video signal, in accordance with SMPTE 291 and other related standards. Its function is to add one or more VANC packets containing data that is constant over some known period of time.
VANC MetaGenerator allows you to create any desired data pattern for inclusion in VANC packets.
It also provides tools for creating two specific types of metadata that are commonly carried in VANC packets, by filling in fields and selecting items from menus. These are audio metadata (SMPTE 2020) and active format descriptor (AFD) metadata (SMPTE 2016). Both of these may change over time in a live broacast situation, to reflect differences in the ways the program content was mastered. However, they are typically constant for any specific piece of program material.
VANC MetaGenerator and the CMI-100 can be used to add these important metadata services to the VANC area of a video item at the time of production, post-production or ingest, in order to ensure that they are permanently associated with the material from then on.
Users who need to add a variety of dynamically changing VANC services (such as closed captioning), or to insert data received in real time from other devices, should consider the Norpak TES9 encoder.
